Congress urges DGP to ensure safety of the elderly

The Congress State vice president Surya Kant Dhasmana has urged the director general of police Deepam Seth to implement proper measures for ensuring the safety of the elderly living alone in Dehradun. He said this following the recent murder of a 75-year-old retired ONGC official in the city.
Dhasmana expressed his concerns to the DGP over the phone regarding the declining law and order situation in Dehradun and the State as a whole. He highlighted that in the Vasant Vihar police station area, many elderly couples reside, especially in areas including Vasant Vihar, Indiranagar, GMS Road, Kaulagarh Road, Chakrata Road, Dalanwala and Rajpur which fall under various police station areas. Many of these elderly individuals have children who work both locally and overseas, making them easy targets for criminals seeking to commit robberies.
Dhasmana emphasised the need for police to maintain updated information on vulnerable elderly residents in every police station area and suggested regular police patrols in those neighbourhoods. He also informed the DGP about a theft that occurred late on Monday night at the historic Shiv temple on Old Mussoorie Road.
The DGP assured Dhasmana that the police will take effective measures to enhance law and order and promptly apprehend those responsible for the murder of the retiree and the theft at the Shiv Bawdi temple. Dhasmana plans to meet with the DGP again to present a memorandum of demands regarding the law and order situation in the state. He stated that if improvements are not made, the Congress party will take to the streets to address these issues.
