Congress welcomes arrests, demands arrest of UKSSSC former chairman S Raju

Welcoming the arrests made by the Special Task Force (STF) on Saturday in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) recruitment scam which included former chairman of the UKSSSC, RBS Rawat, the Uttarakhand Congress has demanded that another former chairman S Raju should also be arrested. Reacting to the arrests of Rawat, former secretary of UKSSSC Manhar Kanyal and former controller of examinations RS Pokharia, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the Congress party welcomes the action of STF. He said that Rawat should be thoroughly interrogated and the STF should ensure that a strong case is prepared. He said that as the deputy leader of opposition, he had raised the issue in the Assembly in the year 2017-18 .
Mahara said that the then Parliamentary Affairs minister, late Prakash Pant had said that the inquiry done by the senior IAS officer Ranvir Singh had found that tampering in the answer sheets had occurred and had assured the house that action would be taken against the guilty. He said that no action was taken by the government. Mahara said that the two of the then members of the UKSSSC , Diwan Singh Bainsoda and Mahesh Chandra had resigned from the commission alleging that the chairman RBS Rawat was involved in the recruitment scam after that the issue was raised in the Assembly by the Congress party.
The PCC president said that the former chairman of the UKSSSC, S Raju should also be arrested because the scam occurred during his tenure. He said that Raju who had claimed that influential politicians were involved to stall the investigation. Mahara said that the Raju should be arrested to know the identity of the politician/ politicians.
Terming the arrest of Rawat and two other former senior officers of the commission as victory of the Congress party and the stand taken by it in the case, Mahara said that the State government should now ensure that the case is contested strongly in the court because four people have already been let off the hook due to lack of evidences and poor homework in the case.
