Blaming the Congress party for escalating the ongoing Pahadi-Desi controversy in Uttarakhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party has claimed that Congress will face consequences of its action in the 2027 State Assembly elections by losing all seats.

The controversy erupted after a viral video featuring State cabinet ministers Prem Chand Aggarwal and Subodh Uniyal sparked debates on the Pahadi-Desi issue. Many people and opposition leaders protested against the ministers with demonstrations and burnt effigies.

Reacting to the ongoing situation in Uttarakhand, BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt accused Congress of deliberately creating unrest. He stated that Congress is harming itself by stirring up such sentiments. Bhatt said that if someone makes a mistake and apologises, there is no need to prolong the matter.

He warned that if this issue continues, it could lead to further divisions, including between Garhwal and Kumaon. Bhatt urged Congress to control its leaders and refrain from such actions. He asserted that the public will hold Congress accountable in the next elections and claimed that in 2027, the party will be reduced from winning 19 seats in the last assembly elections to none in the next elections.

Bhatt said, “I do not have any issue if common people post their point of views on social media platforms regarding this issue. They have the right. However, public representatives must refrain from making remarks to escalate the issue that can cause a rift among people of the State.” He said that Congress leadership should understand that Uttarakhand’s public is well educated and can see through their tactics to divide them for political gains.
