Consecration of Lord Ram: U’khand to celebrate Jan 22 as Deepotsav
CM directs DMs to organise cultural & religious programmes from Jan 14 to 22

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has exhorted the people of Uttarakhand to celebrate January 22 as Deepotsav in the State. He said that a cultural and religious festival should be celebrated in the State from January 14 to 22 as a prelude for the consecration ceremony of Lord Ram in Ayodhya. The CM held a virtual meeting with all the district magistrates of the State on Friday. He said that celebrations should be held in all parts of the State with public participation.
The CM said that the task of making Uttarakhand the best State of the country should be achieved while following the ideals of Lord Ram. The people of India have waited for long to witness the cherished moment when the Lord Ram will get anointed at his birth place in Ayodhya. Dhami said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided an opportunity to 140 crore Indians to celebrate January 22 as Ramotsav.
The CM directed that sanitation campaigns should be undertaken in temples, Ghats, institutions and cities and said that the DMs should ensure that the programme does not become a government event. He said that Mahila Mangal Dal, Yuvak Mangal Dal, social organisations and the general public should participate in Deepotsav, sanitation, Prasad distribution and Bhajan Kirtan programmes. He suggested that millets of Uttarakhand should be used as Prasad in these ceremonies.
The CM said that cultural and religious programmes should be held from January 14 to 22. He said Arti at major ghats, Ram Bhajans, Kalash Yatras, wall paintings and lighting should be done during this period. The CM added that innovations should reflect in these programmes and said that district organising best programmes will be felicitated. The CM said January 22 should be declared a dry day in the State. He said that programmes will be organised in Raghunath temple in Devprayag, Rameshwar and Pancheshwar temples of Pithoragarh and Ram temple and Sharda ghat in Champawat. He said that tableaux on Ram theme will be taken out in the Uttarayani Kauthik ( fair) in Bageshwar. Similarly programmes will be organised in Katarmal in Almora, Prayags and Panch Badri in Chamoli and Kainchi Dham and Naina Devi in Nainital.
The additional chief secretary Radha Raturi, Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, culture secretary HC Semwal, director of culture Veena Bhatt and all the DMs took part in the meeting.
