A Sundarkand recital was organised by the Mahila Congress at the headquarters of the State Congress on Monday to mark the consecration ceremony of Ram temple in Ayodhya. Large number of women party workers led by the Mahila Congress president Jyoti Rautela participated in the Sundarkand recital. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal, former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat and other party leaders participated in the recital. The Congressmen chanted the religious verses with enthusiasm which created an atmosphere of religious fervour in the premises of State headquarters of the party.
Interacting with the media persons the PCC president said that the Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati has said the temple is a living body with different parts with the idol being the soul. “The Shankaracharya has expressed apprehension on the consecration ceremony in an incomplete temple so we Congressmen are organising a recital of Sundarkand to prevent any mishap and misfortune,’’ he said. He said that the BJP has politicised the event and insulted the Shankaracharyas. The BJP is fiddling with the faith of the people, Mahara added.
Former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat said that Ram is worshiped by everyone. Remembering his association with the temple movement, he said that BJP has politicised the event, while adding that it is natural for the BJP to take advantage of the situation.
The Mahila Congress president said that saints and the general public fought a long battle for the birthplace of Lord Ram and the locks of Ram Lalla were opened on the orders of then Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi. She said that the consecration ceremony held in Ayodhya would have been much better with the participation of the Shankaracharyas. Rautela said that the BJP is making an attempt to take credit for construction of Ram temple which is deplorable.
