Constitution soul & source of all powers of Indian democracy: Governor

The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that the constitution is the soul of Indian democracy and is also the source of all its powers. He said that in the historic task of making the constitution of independent India, the hard work of many great thinkers of the country and the prevalence of great ideas made the idea of a public welfare Constitution possible.
The governor was addressing a programme organised on Constitution Day at Raj Bhawan on Tuesday. “All of us should remember the true ideals, strong principles and sense of sacred duties contained in the Constitution of India. Our Constitution is the largest written document in the world, which is a beacon for us as a nation. In its light, our nation and citizens are building the golden future of India,” he said.
He said that everyone should be fully aware of the duties given in the Constitution to maintain the trust expressed by the makers of the Constitution makers. Singh said that every citizen has to understand the fundamental duties contained in Article 51 (a) of the Constitution and behave accordingly. To keep this spirit of the Constitution makers intact, the values of the Constitution and the fundamental duties contained in it have to be fully implemented in life. The governor administered the oath of duties and responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution to all officers and employees on the occasion. He also read out the Preamble of the Constitution.
