The Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) needs to consistently increase the numbers of helipads and heliports considering the geological conditions of the State, said the chief secretary SS Sandhu. He stated this in the review meeting of UCADA held at the secretariat on Thursday.

He enquired about the progress of the helipads and heliports being built across the State. He said that tourism plays an important role in boosting the economy of the State but the mountainous areas are also extremely vulnerable to frequent disasters and accidents. Besides ensuring connectivity via roads, the administration also needs to improve air connectivity to various areas of the State.

The improved air connectivity will increase the number of high-end tourists in tourism areas as well as will prove to be very helpful in disaster-like situations in mountainous areas, he said. He directed the officials to prepare a heliport near Jolly Grant in Dehradun and helipads in the surrounding areas of famous tourist places like Nainital and Mussoorie. He also directed them to expedite the work of transfer of forest land identified for helipads and heliports.
