PNS | DEHRADUN

In response to the initiative launched by Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal, the construction of a canteen to be operated by a women’s self-help group (SHG) has started at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital in the provisional State capital. Informing about this, the hospital’s medical superintendent Dr VS Chauhan said that the construction of the canteen outlet was initiated recently by the district administration. This effort aims to create economic opportunities for women, thereby promoting women’s empowerment. Chauhan said that the existing canteen does not have adequate space to operate effectively or to introduce new facilities. Therefore, in light of this initiative, the construction of the canteen extension is now underway. He further claiedt that this canteen will be unique, as it will be the first at a government hospital to offer traditional Pahadi dishes to patients and their visitors at reasonable prices.

He also highlighted that according to the directives of the DM, women from self-help groups will be appointed to provide services in the canteen. It is anticipated that construction of the canteen will be completed by the end of March, allowing operations to commence shortly thereafter.

It will be recalled that recently, the DM announced that Dehradun will soon feature four new food outlets, including cafes, canteens and restaurants, all managed exclusively by women from self-help groups. These establishments will be located at the court premises, Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital, Guchhupani and Suddhowala near Panchayat Ghar. He stated that these outlets will be entirely overseen by women who will receive training in accordance with market standards. The aim is to provide them with the necessary skills to operate these establishments successfully. Each outlet is projected to create approximately 25 job opportunities for women, promoting both economic independence and new employment possibilities. He said that this initiative is a significant advancement for women’s empowerment, offering them stable income sources and valuable business experience.
