The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) is planning to lodge a police case against the contractor responsible after an underground power line got damaged during excavation on Saturday in Haridwar. The excavation work was being undertaken in the Pantdweep parking to make some arrangements for the Kanwad Mela starting in a few days. The damage to the power line had disrupted electricity supply to various areas though alternative arrangements were made while repair work was started.
The UPCL has put up sign boards warning about the presence of the underground power line passing through the Pantdweep parking. However, due to the alleged negligence of the contractor of the parking facility, the underground power line was damaged during excavation work on the weekend. Though there was no major accident due to the power line getting damaged, electricity supply to various areas was disrupted for hours. It took the department about 11 hours to ascertain which of the two power lines was damaged after which the second line was turned on.
According to official sources in the UPCL, the corporation is now going to file a case against the contractor responsible. After finding the fault, repair work is underway.Till the repairs are completed the power supply has been started from the additional main line.
