Convert problems into opportunities: governor
10,972 graduate, 716 PG, one PhD, 27 gold medals awarded in UOU convocation

The governor of Uttarakhand lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that the problems like unemployment and migration should be converted to opportunities by using the immense resources of Uttarakhand. He said that there is a huge scope for research in the State. He was addressing the convocation of the Uttarakhand Open University (UOU) on Wednesday.
The governor and the Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the convocation of the UOU in a virtual manner. In his address the governor asked the students to create employment opportunities in the rural areas of the State. He opined that the projects and work plans should be developed while keeping the capabilities of local people.
The governor said that there are many challenges, the solutions for which are needed to be found out and the idea of Vishwa Guru and developed India can be realised on the basis of the youth power. He said that the Open University should design the syllabus while keeping the employment avenues at the centre. The governor said that in distance education, commitment and hard work play a major role.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the convocation means end of formal education but the real education goes on for the entire span of life. He said the UOU achieved many a feat during last year. The CM exhorted the students of the university to participate in the task of making a strong Uttarakhand. The minister of state (MoS) for defence Ajay Bhatt congratulated the students on the occasion.
The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that Uttarakhand would become the first state to implement the system of one examination, one election, one convocation in the higher education sector in the country. In the programme 10972 students were conferred degrees while 716 got post graduate degrees. One student was awarded the PhD degree while 27 students were given gold medals. This year the gold medal of Chancellor was conferred to Anita Joshi of botany. Honorary doctorates were awarded to recipient of Padma Shri and founder of Maiti movement Kalyan Singh Rawat, Nand Lal Bharti for conserving culture of Jaunsar and famous singer and recipient of Padmashree Basanti Devi Bisht.
