Cooperative movement holds key to prosperity: Dhami

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the cooperative movement is very important for the younger generation since it wants to become self-reliant. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set up a separate ministry of Cooperation with an objective of fulfilling the dream of prosperity through cooperatives.

The CM was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day cultural and literature festival at Doon University here on Friday. The programme was organised under the aegis of the Sahakar Bharati. He said that under the leadership of Union Home and Cooperation minister Amit Shah, the cooperative movement in the country is getting strengthened by setting up a separate administrative, legal and policy framework.
The Cooperation ministry is working in the direction of making the business of cooperative societies easy. The development of the multipurpose cooperative credit societies is also being facilitated. The CM averred that the objective of the Cooperation department and associated institutes is to provide easy and cheap loans to the farmers and to alleviate the living standard of rural and urban poor by strengthening them.

Praising the efforts of Sahakar Bharati, the CM said that it is the only all India body of cooperative committees.  Paying rich tributes to the founder of the organisation Late Laxmanrao Inamdar, the CM said that he played a key role in the development of cooperative movement in the country. He dedicated his life for the nation. He said that the Sahakar Bharati has always tried to reach out to the last person standing on the social ladder. Dhami said that cooperative movement is based on mutual help instead of competitiveness and it is an endeavour to make everyone self-reliant. Ganga Sahakar Gram is the ancillary body of the organisation which is working in the direction of promoting natural farming, medicinal plants and plantation. The CM added that interest free loans are being provided to farmers under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Sahakarita Kisan Kalyan Yojana.  Under the Mukhyamantri Ghasyari Kalyan Yojana silage is given to cattle owners. Dhami said that the process of computerisation of multipurpose primary agriculture cooperative credit societies (MPACS) has started from Uttarakhand and all the 670 MPACS have been computerised.

Cabinet ministers Satpal Maharaj, Dhan  Singh Rawat, the national chairperson of Sahakar Bharati Deenanath Thakur, founder director of Millennium India Education Foundation Udai Kakru and vice chancellor of Doon University Surekha Dangwal were present on the occasion.
