In latest news from Doon, the State government is all set to form a Char Dham Yatra Council instead of the Char Dham Yatra Authority. Sources said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had instructed the officials concerned to complete the necessary process for the constitution of the council by January 30. Apart from this, the officials were instructed to make the registration system for the pilgrimage more robust.
Recently, a meeting of the members of the religious fraternity and the senior administrative officers was held with the additional chief secretary Anand Vardhan chairing it. The office bearers of the Tirtha Purohit Mahapanchayat and other temple committees as well as the Tirtha Purohit Mahasabha unanimously said that no kind of interference would be accepted in the internal arrangements of the Char Dhams. They insisted that traditions going on since time immemorial should be kept intact. Now, with the suggestions incorporated, the State government is preparing to bring into force Uttarakhand Tirth Yatra Parishad.
Notably, the same issue had forced the Trivendra Singh Rawat government to quit in the face of vigorous protest by a large section of the religious fraternity after it had brought forth the Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board.
