Some councillors of Dehradun Municipal Corporation (MCD) have leveled allegations that some officials of Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) are assisting land mafia to acquire the pieces of land that belong to the MCD and are allowing illegal constructions there. The councillors along with some local people went to the MDDA office to present this issue before MDDA secretary Mohan Singh Barnia on Monday morning. The Salawala councillor Bhupendra Kathaith said that several illegal buildings and complexes have been built across the city under MDDA which has ruined its resources and beauty in the past few years. He alleged that trusting MDDA, MCD gave No Objection Certificate (NOC) for one of its land in Phase I of Rajeshwar Nagar but somehow, people of land mafia managed to acquire the land in their names. It cannot be possible without the help of any MDDA official or employee, said Kathaith. He stated, “Illegal construction works of malls, flats, hotels and plotting are being done continuously in various parts of the city with the connivance of MDDA officials. Such construction works can be observed easily in the Jakhan area but the authorities concerned pay no attention to it. There are no proper arrangements of water supply, parking space and sewerage system in flats and malls but the MDDA officials hardly look into such issues.” Councillors said that the MDDA secretary has assured them to look into the matter and they will intensify their protest if no action is taken soon.
