Covid-19; Active cases count falls below 5 K in U’khand

Recovery rate mounts to 95 per cent, 263 new cases, 629 recoveries on Sunday

In a clear indication that the curve of the second wave of Covid-19 has effectively flattened in Uttarakhand the state health department reported that the recovery rate from the disease has climbed to 95 per cent and the number of active cases in the state have come below 5,000 figure mark on Sunday. The authorities reported only 263 new cases and seven deaths from the disease on the day. The cumulative count of patients in the state has now increased to 3,36,879. The state health department also reported recovery of 629 patients on the day. A total of 3,19,559 patients have so far recovered from the disease. The recovery percentage is now at 94.86 per cent while the sample positivity rate is 6.56 per cent. The department took samples of 14,292 patients on the day for Covid -19 testing.

Out of the seven deaths reported on the day, two patients each died at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh and Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital Haldwani. 

The provisional state capital Dehradun reported 67, Haridwar 55, Nainital 23, Uttarkashi 22, Tehri 20, Udham Singh Nagar 15, Almora 12, Chamoli and Champawat 11 each Pauri nine, Bageshwar eight and Pithoragarh and Rudraprayag  five each new cases of the disease on Sunday.

The state now has 4,633 active patients of the disease. Pauri district is at top of the table in the list of active cases with 831 cases while Pithoragarh is in second position with 684 active cases. Haridwar has 539, Almora 464, Tehri 432, Bageshwar 274, Champawat 262, Nainital 261, Chamoli 232, Dehradun 231, Rudraprayag 203, Uttarkashi 114 and Udham Singh Nagar 106 active cases of the disease. 

 The state reported 10 new cases of Mucormycosis (Black fungus) on Sunday after which it now has 390 patients of the disease. Death of six patients from Black Fungus was also reported on the day. A total of 66 patients have so far died from this disease while 39 have recovered. 

In the ongoing vaccination drive, 29,450 people were vaccinated in 298 sessions in different parts of the state on Sunday. A total of 6,94,536 people have been fully vaccinated while 26,16,120  have received the first dose of the vaccine in the state.
