Covid-19 contagion hits overdrive mode in U’khand
5,084 new patients, 81 deaths in a single day. Infection spreading fast in mountainous districts also
The second wave of the contagion of the Covid-19 in Uttarakhand has assumed alarming proportions. On Saturday the number of deaths from the disease and new patients broke all records by a substantial margin. The state health department reported 81 deaths and 5084 new patients of Covid-19 on the day. What is a matter of great worry is that after sweeping across the plain districts the contagion of Covid-19 is now increasing menacingly in the mountainous districts.
With a staggering 81 deaths on Saturday the death toll from the disease has mounted to 2102 in the state. The state now has 147433 (cumulative) patients of the disease. The authorities discharged 1466 patients of the disease from different hospitals after their recovery on Saturday. A total of 108916 patients have so far recovered from the disease in Uttarakhand.
With ever increasing cases of Covid-19 the recovery percentage has now slide to 73.97 percent. The sample positivity rate has increased to 4.17 percent in the state. A total of 40479 samples were collected on Saturday while 22533 samples are yet to be tested in different laboratories of the state.
In Sushila Tiwari government hospital Haldwani a staggering 20 deaths from Covid-19 were reported on Saturday. Similarly 15 patients died at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital while 12 at Himalayan hospital Jollygrant, nine at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh , eight at Mahant Indiresh hospital Dehradun and five at Baba Barfani Hospital in Haridwar succumbed to the disease on the day. Four patients were reported dead at military hospital (MH) Dehradun, three at Base hospital Kotdwar and two at Medicity Rudrapur on Saturday. Deaths of one patient each were reported at Kailash hospital Dehradun, Prayas hospital Khatima, Paras hospital Dehradun and Gautam Hospital Rudrapur on the day.
In Dehradun 1736 new patients of the disease were reported on Saturday. Similarly 998 patients were found in Haridwar district, 592 in Nainital, 378 in Udham Singh Nagar, 301 in Pauri, 215 in Uttarkashi, 190 in Tehri, 123 in Pithoragarh, 117 in Almora, 90 in Chamoli, 53 in Rudraprayag and 10 in Bageshwar districts on Saturday.
The state now has 33330 active patients of the disease. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 11536 patients, Haridwar has 9383, Nainital 3737, Udham Singh Nagar 2437, Pauri 1609, Tehri 1116, Champawat 830, Almora 597, Uttarkashi 547, Chamoli 534, Rudraprayag 465, Pithoragarh 302 and Bageshwar 237 active cases of the disease.
The administration has set up 115 containment zones in different parts of the state in an attempt to prevent the infection from spreading.
In the ongoing vaccination drive the state health department vaccinated 41222 people in different parts of the state on Saturday. In the state 331647 people have been fully vaccinated so far as they have received both the first and second dose of the vaccine. The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of state Covid-19 control room, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that 606 vaccine sessions were organised in different parts of the state on Saturday.
