Covid-19 explosion in U’khand; 37 deaths, 2757 cases reported in one day

Recovery percentage drops, Doon, Haridwar reel under the onslaught of contagion

Breaking all records of numbers and fatalities the contagion of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) has gathered explosive momentum in Uttarakhand. The state health department reported 2757 cases of the disease with 37 casualties. The state now has 121403 (cumulative) cases of the disease while the death toll has mounted to 1856.

 The health department discharged 802 patients from different hospitals of the state following their recovery from the disease on Saturday.  A total of 101659 patients have recovered from the disease in the state and the recovery percentage has now dropped further to 83.74 and the sample positivity rate is 3.68 percent.

The provisional state capital Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts are continuing to reel under an onslaught of the disease. In Dehradun 1179 cases of the disease were reported while 617 new patients surfaced in Haridwar district on Saturday. The authorities also reported 265 patients from Udham Singh Nagar, 248 from Nainital, 155 from Pauri, 79 from Rudraprayag, 51 from Almora, 50 from Tehri, 44 from Champawat, 28 from Chamoli, 15 from Bageshwar, 14 from Uttarkashi and 12 from Pithoragarh.  The senior BJP leader Bachi Singh Rawat was airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh on Saturday after his condition deteriorated.  

The Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital Haldwani reported an unprecedented number of deaths on Saturday. Here 16 patients of Covid-19 were reported dead on Saturday. Three patients each were reported dead at the Himalayan hospital and Mahant Indiresh hospital Dehradun on the day. Similarly two patients each died at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital Dehradun, Mahant Indiresh hospital, Military hospital Dehradun and Arihant hospital Dehradun. One patient each succumbed to the disease at Medicity Rudrapur, Sai hospital Haldwani, Brijlal hospital Nainital, SDH Narendra Nagar, district hospital Chamoli, District hospital Gopeshwar and HNB Base hospital Srinagar on Saturday.

 The state now has 15386 active patients of the disease. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 6398 patients, Haridwar has 4481, Nainital 1577, Udham Singh Nagar 866, Pauri 599, Tehri 399, Almora 230, Champawat and Rudraprayag 219 each, Bageshwar 123, Chamoli 110,  Pithoragarh 87 and Uttarkashi 78 active cases of Covid-19. 

In the vaccination drive 40309 people were vaccinated in different parts of the state on Saturday. In the state 232177 people have been fully vaccinated so far as they have received both the first and second dose of the vaccine. 

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of state Covid-19 control room, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that 606 vaccine sessions were organised in different parts of the state on Saturday.
