Covid-19 on upswing in U’khand

Two deaths, 500 new cases reported on Thursday. Dehradun & Haridwar are witnessing a steep rise in cases of the disease
The upward curve shown by the cases of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) in Uttarakhand is getting sharper. On Thursday the state health department reported 500 cases of the disease. The last time the state reported more than 500 cases in one single day was December 23, 2020. The state now has 100911 (cumulative) cases of Covid-19. The provisional state capital Dehradun and Haridwar which is hosting Kumbh are witnessing a steep rise in the cases of the disease.
The department also reported the death of two patients of the disease on the day. The disease has so far claimed 1715 lives in the state. The authorities discharged 125 patients from different hospitals of the state following their recovery on Thursday. A total of 95455 patients have recovered from the disease in the state and the recovery percentage is now at 94.59 and the sample positivity rate is 3.66 percent.
The authorities reported 236 new cases of the disease from Dehradun, 149 from Haridwar, 49 from Nainital, 22 from Udham Singh Nagar, 14 from Pauri, 11 from Tehri, five each from Almora and Pithoragarh, four from Bageshwar, two from Rudraprayag and one each from Chamoli, Champawat and Uttarkashi districts on Thursday.
The health department reported the death of a 65 year old female patient at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on Thursday. A 31 year old male was reported dead at Kailash hospital Dehradun on the day.
The state now has 2236 active patients of the disease. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 926 patients, Haridwar has 626, Tehri 127, Pauri 99, Almora 48, Uttarkashi 33, Rudraprayag 31, Pithoragarh 27, Chamoli 22, Bageshwar 18 and Champawat 13 active cases of Covid-19.
Meanwhile in the ongoing vaccination drive, 25880 people were vaccinated in different parts of the state on Thursday. In the state 124659 people have been fully vaccinated so far as they have received both the first and second dose of the vaccine. A total of 349794 senior citizens (60 Plus) have received the first dose of the vaccine in the state. Similarly 39577 persons in the age group of 45-59 years have been vaccinated in the state. The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of state Covid-19 control room, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that 529 vaccine sessions were organised in different parts of the state on Tuesday.
In Dehradun 110 vaccine sessions were organised in which 2501 senior citizens, 4019 persons between 45 to 60 years of age, 195 healthcare workers and 209 frontline workers were vaccinated on Thursday.
Similarly 1348 senior citizens, 1461 persons between 45 to 60 years of age, 49 health care workers and 704 front line workers were vaccinated in 105 vaccine sessions in Haridwar district on the day.
