Covid-19 tally mounts to 84069 in U’khand

Three deaths, 567 new cases reported on Wednesday

The number of novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Uttarakhand climbed to 84069 on Wednesday with the state health department reporting 567 fresh cases of the disease. The authorities also reported the death of three patients of the disease on the day after which the death toll mounted to 1375 in the state. The health department discharged 498 patients from different hospitals on the day. A total of 75547 patients have recovered from the disease so far. The health secretary Amit Singh Negi was found infected with Covid-19 on Tuesday following which he isolated himself in his home.

The recovery percentage from the disease now stands at 89.97 percent while the sample positivity rate is 5.41 percent.

One patient each of the disease was reported dead at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, Sushila Tiwari government hospital Haldwani and Kailash hospital Dehradun on Wednesday.

Meanwhile the experts are getting concerned over the increase in death rate in mountainous districts. The founder of Social Development for Communities Foundation (SDC) Anoop Nautiyal said that on December 16, 12.65 percent deaths were from mountainous districts. This percentage was 9.14 on November 16 and 7.36 on October 16. Among the mountainous districts maximum deaths ( 55) have occurred in Pauri district.

The provisional state capital Dehradun continues to reel under the onslaught of the disease. Here the health department reported 194 cases of the disease on Wednesday. The department reported 123 patients from Nainital, 57 from Almora, 37 from Haridwar, 26 from Chamoli, 21 each from Champawat and Pithoragarh, 20 from Udham Singh Nagar, 18 from Pauri, 17 from Uttarkashi, 16 from Bageshwar, 14 from Tehri and three from Rudraprayag on Wednesday. The state now has 6140 active cases of the disease. 

Dehradun is maintaining its lead at top of the table of active cases with 1776 cases while with 923 active cases Nainital is at second spot. Haridwar is at third spot with 518 active cases. Pithoragarh has 452, Pauri 405, Chamoli 345, Almora 339, Tehri 325, Udham Singh Nagar 293, Uttarkashi 273, Bageshwar 196 and Champawat 151 active cases of the disease. With 144 active cases of Covid-19, Rudraprayag is now at the bottom of the table.
