Demanding a high level judicial probe of the Covid-19 testing scam of Haridwar Kumbh, the Provincial Medical and Health Services Association (PMHSA) has said that the suspension of Mela officer (health) Kumbh, Dr A S Senger and additional Mela officer (health), Dr N K Tyagi should be revoked till the report of judicial inquiry comes. The PMHSA, the powerful association of the doctors of the state health services has also expressed its resentment over the one sided punitive action taken against doctors in many cases. In a letter directed to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the association has said that action against Dr Senger and Dr Tyagi was taken on the basis of the inquiry report submitted by CDO Haridwar. The general secretary of the association Dr Manoj Verma whatever decisions and actions these officers have taken must be on the written or verbal orders of senior officers. In the letter the association said that in view of the services rendered by Dr Senger and Dr Tyagi during the pandemic of Covid-19 their suspension should be revoked till the findings of the judicial probe.
On Thursday the state administration had suspended Dr Senger and Dr Tyagi for their role in testing scam and releasing bills worth Rs 50 lakhs to the Covid-19 testing labs without checking the facts.
The Kumbh testing scam came to fore when a preliminary inquiry by the Haridwar administration found many irregularities in the tests conducted by private agencies during Kumbh. It was found that a large number of fictitious tests were conducted by the private labs that were given the assignment to test the samples of the pilgrims during Kumbh.
