Covid-19 vaccination gathers momentum in U’khand

On Friday a record number of 6301 people were administered the Covishield vaccine

The pace of vaccination against the Covid-19 is picking up in Uttarakhand. On Friday a record number of 6301 people were administered the Covishield vaccine. To increase the number of vaccinations, the state administration has also augmented the number of vaccine sessions. A total of 109 vaccine sessions were held in different parts of the state on Friday which also is the highest so far in a single day in the state. The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of state Covid-19 control room, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that a total of 408 vaccine sessions have so far been held in the state and in them 25818 people have been vaccinated. In Dehradun 26 vaccine sessions were held on Friday in which 1426 people were vaccinated. Similarly 842 people were vaccinated in 15 vaccine sessions in Nainital district on the day. In Pauri 709 people were inoculated in 10 sessions while 631 workers were vaccinated in 15 sessions in Haridwar on Friday. In Tehri 10 vaccine sessions were held and 632 workers were vaccinated in them.

It is pertinent to mention here that the vaccination drive in Uttarakhand started on January 16. On the very first day a total of 2276 health care workers were inoculated with the vaccine in 34 vaccine sessions. The vaccination became a bit sluggish after January 16 but it has now again picked up the momentum. In Uttarakhand Covishield vaccine is being administered. This vaccine is developed by Oxford University- AstraZeneca and manufactured in India by Serum Institute of India (SII). The second dose of the vaccine would be administered after 28 days of the first dose.
