Covid contagion maintains explosive growth in Uttarakhand

Record 9,642 new patients detected on Friday. Dehradun among worst affected districts of country
The contagion of Covid-19 is continuing to surge forward with an explosive pace. For the third consecutive day on Friday the number of new cases of the disease created a new record. The state health department reported a mind-blowing 9,642 patients of the disease on Friday. On Wednesday and Thursday (May 5 and 6) 7,783 and 8,517 new cases of the disease were reported respectively. The deadly spell of the contagion is also continuing in the state. The authorities reported 137 deaths due to the disease on Friday. The state now has 2,29,993 cumulative cases of the disease and a total of 3,430 deaths have so far been reported in the state. The death rate in the state is 1.49 percent which is much higher than the national average.
The authorities discharged 4,643 patients after recovery from the hospitals on Friday. The cumulative count of recovered patients in the state has now increased to 1,54,132. The recovery rate in the state has plummeted to 67.02 percent while the sample positivity rate is 5.76 percent.
Out the 137 deaths reported on Friday, 24 were from Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital Haldwani, 22 from Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital, 12 from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh and 10 from Himalayan hospital Dehradun. Similarly eight patients were reported dead at ONGC hospital Dehradun, seven from Medicity Rudrapur, six each from Mahant Indiresh hospital Dehradun and SPS government hospital Rishikesh, five each from Max hospital Dehradun, Coronation hospital Dehradun and HNB base hospital Srinagar and four each from Kailash hospital Dehradun and district hospital Uttarkashi on the day.
Dehradun district which now holds the dubious distinction of being among the most infected districts of the country reported a staggering 3979 new cases of the disease. Nainital reported 1342, Udham Singh Nagar 1286 and Haridwar 768 new cases of the disease. Almora 565, Uttarkashi 531, Tehri 325, Chamoli 314, Champawat 214, Pauri 196, Bageshwar 117, Pithoragarh 111 and Rudraprayag 94 new cases of the disease.
The state now has 67691 active patients of the disease. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 25,183 patients, Haridwar has 11,058, Nainital 7450, Udham Singh Nagar 5,228, Pauri 4,016, Tehri 2,921, Chamoli 2356, Champawat 2,097, Almora 1,792, Uttarkashi 1,638, Pithoragarh 1,354, Bageshwar 1,318 and Rudraprayag 1,235 active cases of the disease. To contain the contagion of Covid-19, the state administration has set up 362 containment zones in different parts of the state.
In the ongoing vaccination drive 35771 people were vaccinated in 650 sessions in different parts of the state. A total of 5,45,185 people have so far been fully vaccinated in the state while 17,28,944 have been partially vaccinated.
