4,964 new cases, eight deaths reported on Friday

The Omicron triggered third wave of the pandemic of Covid-19 is scaling new peaks with each passing day in Uttarakhand. On Friday the state health department reported 4,964 new cases of the disease. The department also reported the death of eight patients of the disease on the day. The positivity rate which is an indicator of the presence of the virus in the population zoomed up to an alarming 21.60 per cent on Friday.
The cumulative count of Covid-19 patients in the state is now at 3,91,915 while a total of 3,49,364 patients have recovered from the disease so far. A total of 7,468 people have died in the state so far from Covid-19. The recovery percentage of the disease further dropped to 89.14.
The authorities reported death of two patients at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh while one patient each died at Mahant Indiresh hospital Dehradun, Susheela Tiwari government hospital Haldwani, Synergy hospital Dehradun, Ramakrishna Mission Sewashram Haridwar and CHC Khatima, Udham Singh Nagar on Friday.
The state health department reported 1,489 new patients from Dehradun, 706 from Haridwar, 666 from Nainital, 485 from Udham Singh Nagar, 375 from Pauri, 279 from Champawat, 261 from Almora, 214 from Bageshwar, 195 from Pithoragarh, 120 from Tehri, 75 from Uttarkashi, 55 from Chamoli and 44 from Rudraprayag on Friday.
The active case count of Covid-19 in the state has now jumped to 26,950. Dehradun with 11,064 cases is at the top of the table of active cases while Nainital has 3,744 active cases of the disease which is followed by Haridwar district with 3,551 active cases. Uttarkashi is at the bottom of the table with 187 active cases of the disease.
In the ongoing vaccination drive 33,627 people were vaccinated in 1,121 sessions in the state held on Friday.
The district health department of Dehradun released a helpline number ( 7253878317) on Friday for the senior citizens ( above 60 years) or such co morbid patients who are unable to go to the vaccination sites for the booster dose. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun Dr Manoj Upreti said that highest priority would be accorded to such people for the administration of booster dose.
