Crack meters provide reprieve to administration in Joshimath

The crack meters installed by the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) on the cracks of buildings in the areas affected by land subsidence in Joshimath city have shown no increase in the dimensions of the cracks in the last three days. Giving the information the secretary disaster management, Ranjit Kumar Sinha on crack meters have indicated no increase in the width of the cracks which is a positive sign. He said that Chamoli district administration is carrying out survey work in Joshimath city and is also holding consultations with the affected families for rehabilitation. He informed that discharge of underground water in the JP colony area of Joshimath was 150 litres per minute (LPM) on Thursday. Till now cracks have been noticed in 849 buildings and 259 families have been temporarily shifted to relief camps.
