After cracks developed on the national highway to Badrinath, a hole developed along the highway near the railway guest house on Monday. After the local residents gathered to view the hole, personnel of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) also reached the site and started filling the hole. Apart from this, the cracks which had developed on the highway due to subsidence and which had been filled earlier by the BRO have again started showing fissures. The BRO officials have stated that these developments will not have any impact on the highway. Meanwhile, the locals state that the effect of the heavy traffic to Badrinath seen during the Yatra season remains to be seen on the highway.
Old and new cracks are visible on the stretch of the highway from Joshimath to Marwadi. This highway is the main route to Badrinath and is also used by pilgrims and travelers to travel to Hemkund and the Valley of Flowers. This highway also leads to the Mana Pass in the Indo-China border region. Apart from the cracks on the road, some cracks have also developed on the walls along the highway near the Jaypee store. Locals state that these issues should be treated soon to prevent further problems in the future.
