A villager in critical condition was airlifted by helicopter from his remote village in Pithoragarh district and taken to the district hospital. Man Singh is a resident of Kanar village situated at an altitude of 8,000 feet in the Baram Chhiplakedar ranges. The bridle path to Kanar village, along a 16 kilometre climb from Baram has been badly damaged due to rains. Singh suddenly became ill on Sunday and the villagers were unable to carry him in a doli (palanquin) to Baram. Lack of proper medical facilities in nearby areas, damage to the road in Dhomani, Kaichani and Doligad and the intermittent rock falls from the mountain side prevented the villagers from transporting him by road even as his condition deteriorated.
The Gram Pradhan Mahendra Singh Parihar sent a letter to the deputy collector AK Shukla through WhatsApp, demanding a helicopter. Block Development Committee member Mahendra Singh Budiyal also met the sub divisional magistrate and demanded that a helicopter be provided to airlift the sick Singh. On Monday, a helicopter landed in Kanar village and transported the patient to Pithoragarh district hospital for treatment.
