The State’s chief secretary (CS) Radha Raturi directed the home secretary of the State to appoint a nodal officer to deal with the cases related to potential beneficiaries of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 living in Uttarakhand. She gave this direction on Wednesday after considering the demand raised by the BJP leader Ravindra Jugran.
The BJP leader had recently met the CS and informed her that a large number of people settled in Uttarakhand are facing difficulties in obtaining Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019. During his meeting with CS, he had tried to impress upon her the need to address these issues at the administrative level and provide proper guidance to those seeking citizenship. That was when the BJP leader urged the CS to appoint nodal officers to assist these people and ensure they face no issues in obtaining citizenship.
He had further shared with the CS that many of those residing in Uttarakhand who have applied for Indian citizenship after 2019 have been facing problems due to technical flaws in the application form.
