CS directs Transport Dept to make use of latest technology

The chief secretary (CS) SS Sandhu has directed the officers of the Transport department to make use of the latest technology in providing transport facilities, road safety and civic amenities to the people. He also emphasised on adoption of best practices which are in sync with the geographical conditions of Uttarakhand.
The CS chaired a review meeting of the officers of the Transport department at the state secretariat on Friday. He advised the officers to adopt an outcome based approach and suggested that performance based incentive should be given to the employees working in the Transport department and corporation. He said that it is necessary to encourage and boost the morale of better performers.
The CS stressed on focussing on increasing the revenue of the department and added that efforts should be made to ensure that the people get online facilities easily. He directed the officers to make special efforts to prevent road accidents. The CS ordered that a study should be conducted to find out the reasons responsible for road accidents and the preparations the department has made for them. He said that tests of all parameters should be taken before issuing the driving licences and suggested that factors of the driving in the mountainous areas should be included in the parameters of the driving test. The CS said that the monitoring of the progress should not be based on comparison with last year but with the ideal conditions. Sandhu said that senior officers of the department should do regular monitoring of the works undertaken by the department for providing public facilities.
He said that some important spots should be selected in the Char Dham Yatra routes for making arrangements for boarding and lodging of the drivers. On a terse note he said that the transport department should ensure that there is no dearth of the measures taken for the safety of the passengers. The CS directed the officers to keep focus on the fitness of the vehicles and CCTV cameras should be installed at the places where fitness tests of the vehicles are being done.
The meeting was attended by transport secretary A S Hyanki, managing director of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation Rohit Meena, additional secretary Narendra Joshi, joint transport commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh and other officers of the department.
