Chief secretary Radha Raturi has directed the Health department to keep an adequate number of oxygen concentrators at the Char Dham, other tourist places and hotels located at high altitude. She said that a large number of oxygen plants were installed during the Covid-19 pandemic and efforts should be made to use these in ensuring a safe Char Dham Yatra and safety of tourists. Raturi said this while chairing a meeting of 12th governing body meeting of Uttarakhand Health and Family Welfare Committee at the secretariat on Tuesday. She also directed the officers to make maternal death audits mandatory to reduce maternal mortality rate and ensure effective coordination between the Health department and the National Health Mission (NHM).   In order to achieve the target of making the state TB-free by 2025 she directed that the TB prone areas should be identified for a special campaign.

Raturi said that special focus should be laid on improving medical services and human resources instead of building more buildings and infrastructure in the health and medical sector. The CS also directed the department to increase health literacy at the grassroots level in the state.

She also approved the proposal for rationalisation of honorarium of personnel working under NHM Uttarakhand. Financial approvals for various works of central oxygen pipeline and oxygen plant in Community Health Centres (CHCs) at Salt and Chaukhutia, oxygen plant and shed works in Sahaspur and Doiwala CHCs were also given in the meeting.
