CS orders smart meter installation in all Govt offices & buildings

Chief secretary Radha Raturi has directed all the senior officers and heads of departments of the State administration to install smart meters in the offices and government buildings under their jurisdiction.
The CS said that the installation of smart meters in the government offices, buildings and establishments will encourage the general public to install these meters at their homes. This will help to encourage energy efficiency in the State. She said that the government plans to install smart meters in a speedy manner and all the departments should help in this endeavour.
It is worth mentioning here that the smart meters are to be installed at 15.87 lakh houses in the State. These meters will also be installed at transformers and feeders of the power corporations.
The managing director of the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has directed installation of smart meters at the residences of all the officers and employees of the three power corporations of the State. The MD AK Yadav has also directed the work executing agency and the officers of the corporation to expedite the process of installation of smart meters.
He said that the smart meters help in real time monitoring of electricity consumption which result in controlling unnecessary usage of electricity. The bill process in the smart meters is transparent and solves all the billing problems of the consumers. Yadav added that the consumer can know about the details of power usage on his mobile application. The information of electricity fault and interruption is auto generated in these meters. He clarified that no additional charge will be taken from the consumers for replacing existing meters with smart meters.
