In latest news from Uttarakhand, the chief secretary Radha Raturi said that investigation has been ordered into the SUV (Mahindra Thar) ferrying pilgrims with no health problems in defiance of the State government’s order. She further ordered the Rudraprayag district magistrate to take action against the officers responsible for violating the order.
Notably, following the State tourism department’s request, the Indian Air Force’s Chinook helicopter airdropped Thar SUV and the objective was to ferry the elderly and the sick pilgrims to the shrine from the helipad barely 1200 metres away from the temple.
The video showing three to four individuals, apparently healthy, being transported to the shrine by the SUV became viral on the social media platforms and the people criticised it, terming it as unwarranted and against the spirit of pilgrimage .
