Culture department director to know of status of free musical instrument scheme

Only 16 applied for free instruments from across U’khand

The status report concerning the applications submitted for the initiative to provide musical instruments at no charge for individuals from scheduled castes, will soon be presented to the director of the Culture department Beena Bhatt, the department officials said. Notably, the Culture department recently implemented this programme to distribute musical instruments free of charge to eligible recipients belonging to scheduled castes.
To facilitate participation, the department has made a registration form accessible to interested individuals, which must be completed and submitted to the district magistrate’s office in their respective districts to receive these benefits. The registration period commenced on January 28 and concluded on February 15.
Informing about the current status of the application received so far, officials said that since the conclusion of the registration period, a total of 16 applications have been received to the department from across the State. Of these applications, eight were received from Pithoragarh, three from Nainital, three from Uttarkashi, one from Almora and one from Dehradun. The officials said that additional applications are anticipated and are expected to be submitted to the department in the near future. In light of this information, they plan to present a status report to the director of the department shortly.
Following this, the director will provide the necessary instructions regarding the matter. The officials further said that a four-member committee will be established subsequent to the director’s decision to review and authenticate the documentation of each applicant as part of the selection process. Individuals who are chosen will receive musical instruments at no cost, they added.
It will be recalled that during the initial phase, only four applications were submitted after the conclusion of the registration period. Additionally, in relation to the eligibility criteria for submitting forms, officials stated that applicants must belong to the scheduled caste and possess an income certificate verifying earnings of Rs 2,000, which will be subject to verification by the appropriate authorities. Officials also said that individuals aged between 18 and 60 are eligible to complete the application form.
