The State Culture department has chosen 10 qualifying applicants for distribution of free musical instruments among musically inclined people, particularly those who come under the Scheduled Castes category. This initiative was recently launched by the Culture department. To facilitate participation, registration forms were provided to interested individuals which were to be submitted to the district magistrates’ offices in their respective areas in order to avail these benefits. The registration period commenced on January 28 and concluded on February 15.
The Culture department officials stated that though registration had stopped on the fixed date, they kept accepting applications that came through the DMs’ offices. By the end of February, a total of 18 applications had been received from across the State, they added.
Specifically, these submissions included eight from Pithoragarh, four from Uttarkashi, three from Nainital, two from Dehradun and one from Almora.
The officials also said that a status report detailing these applications had been presented to the director of the Culture department. Following this report, a four-member committee, comprising department officials, was formed to begin the shortlisting process of the submitted applications. They reported that out of the 18, 10 applicants had been selected. The selection was based on the verification of documents submitted and the eligibility criteria drawn by the department.
The officials further indicated that the distribution of the instruments might be delayed because it requires processing an order to be provided to the companies concerned. After the procurement process is over, the applicants will be notified to come and officially receive the instruments. “This is a lengthy procedure,” an official said.
Notably, this is a scheme which will be implemented every year.
