Curtains will come down on the 38th National Games-which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 28 in Dehradun- on Friday in the presence of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Haldwani.
A total of 35 events were held in the National Games this year with Dehradun being the main venue for the event. Apart from Dehradun, the major venues for the event were Haldwani, Haridwar and Rudrapur. One of the aspects of the 38th NG was that the events were also organised in mountainous towns such as Khatima, Tanakpur, Almora and Tehri.
Uttarakhand, which has hosted the NG for the first time, has reasons to smile not just for its successful conduct but for the State having performed remarkably with a total of 104 medals which is the highest medal tally for the State in the National Games. The host State is in seventh position in the medal tally which is a remarkable improvement from 25th position the State got in 37th NG held at Goa.
The State government machinery is now focused on making the closing ceremony as memorable as possible. To review preparations with a few hours left for the programme to start, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami accompanied by the State Sports minister Rekha Arya conducted an on-ground inspection of the International Stadium in Gaulapur, Haldwani.
While the CM stressed on water-tight security and all possible facilities for the guests and the spectators, Arya urged all concerned to use the ceremony to showcase Uttarakhand’s tradition of warm hospitality and cultural uniqueness. Not just all the sportspersons who have won medals have been invited for felicitation but a presentation of yogasana is to feature in it. Further, renowned Bollywood singer Sukhwinder Singh and Kumaoni singer Shweta Mahara will perform. The programme is scheduled to begin at 2 PM, starting with performances by the Digari Group and Shweta.
