Cyber experts issue alert over Cockroach Janata Party trend

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

Cyber experts of Uttarakhand police have issued a public warning over the increasing circulation of messages related to the so-called Cockroach Janata Party on social media and WhatsApp platforms. “Cyber criminals often misuse trending topics and viral content to trap people through fake links, suspicious files and fraudulent messages,” officials said.

The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the fraudsters may use the name of the trending topic to spread malware, steal personal data or gain access to the user’s mobile phones and bank details. “Cyber experts have advised people not to trust any message or invitation related to the CJP without properly checking its authenticity,” Singh said.

Police have urged citizens to avoid clicking on unknown or suspicious links, as these links may install harmful software or allow cyber criminals to hack devices. People have also been warned not to download APK files or other attachments shared through WhatsApp, Telegram or social media without verifying the source.

The officials further advised users not to share personal or financial information on unverified platforms and to avoid forwarding viral messages without fact checking them first. Singh said even a small mistake online can lead to cyber fraud. In case of any cyber crime or suspicious activity, people have been asked to immediately contact the cyber helpline number 1930.
