In latest news from Uttarakhand, the D Litt oral examination of a professor posted in the department of Economics at the DSB campus of Kumaun University Jitendra Kumar Lohani was held. The KU sources said that his research subject was the role of self-help groups in the economic empowerment of women in the hill districts of the Kumaon division with special reference to Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana and National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). The external oral examiners were the professor of Punjabi University Patiala Balwinder Singh Tiwana and professor of Lucknow University Manoj Aggarwal. The dean of the Arts department and the head of the department of Economics Padma Singh Bisht along with some senior professors were present. All the staff members of the university congratulated Lohani on his achievement.
