In latest Uttarakhand news, the Chancellor/Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) has appointed Diwan Singh Rawat as the new vice- chancellor of Kumaun University in Nainital. He is a senior professor of Chemistry in Delhi University. As per information received from the Raj Bhavan sources, he will hold this post for three years from the date he will assume charge or till the next order issued whichever comes earlier.
Resident of Raikholi village of Bageshwar district, he has done his graduation and post-graduation from Kumaun University. He received PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from Central Drug Research Institute Lucknow and Kumaon University. Later, he did post- doctoral fellowship from Indiana University and Purdue University, USA.
Earlier, the State government constituted a search committee for the appointment of the university’s VC which received 114 applications. The committee later shortlisted five names and the list was sent to the Governor/ Chancellor. The Governor interacted with all the five short-listed candidates and finally selected D S Rawat.
