In a major decision shift, the State government lifted the daily cap on the pilgrims for the Char Dham Yatra. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami himself had taken this decision in view of the pilgrim count coming around to the normal, said the Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey. He further said that now the pilgrims for any one or all the four shrines can register themselves from the registration centres in Rishikesh and Haridwar and embark on the pilgrimage.
Pandey said that the number of Char Dham pilgrims had seen an unprecedented increase this year. Whereas 12,35,517 pilgrims visited the Char Dham in the first month last year the figure has gone up to 19, 64, 912 in the corresponding period this year.
