Daily wages not raised yet for workers in State industries: Dumka

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Central government will be announcing national floor level minimum wages as per the new labour laws, after which the State government will review the minimum wages applicable in the State. At the same time, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi or any other authorised officer has not announced Rs 781 daily wage.  Stating this, the State’s Labour commissioner Prakash Chandra Dumka stated that the minimum wages in Uttarakhand are comparatively higher than in nearby States.

At a time when factors including unverified information spread on social media is causing unrest among labourers in some areas, Dumka emphasised that the Labour department and State government are sensitive towards the issues of workers. The minimum wage for engineering industries has already been announced in April while the variable dearness allowance for non-engineering industries has also been announced in the same month with industries having been directed to pay salary and arrears accordingly. The commissioner further informed that while the Central government decides the minimum wage for its undertakings, it doesn’t do so for industries under the purview of the State government. For example, Rs 781 has been implemented for wait and watch (security guard) in Central undertakings while the same is not applicable for industries in the State.

DEHRADUN : The Uttarakhand government increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) of its employees and pensioners by two per cent. The employees and pensioners will now get 50 per cent DA of their basic salary.  The decision will benefit about two lakh employees and 1.25 lakh pensioners of the State government.  The decision will ensure parity on rates of DA between the central government and State government salaries.

The revised DA would be applicable from January 1 this year. The order for increase in the DA of the employees and pensioners was released by the State government on Friday after the approval by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

The different employee associations of the State have expressed happiness at the decision.
