Damage to Gaula bridge & international stadium result of official negligence: Hridayesh

Haldwani MLA Sumit Hridayesh has alleged that a portion of the bridge on Gaula river being damaged for the second time is a result of the incompetence of the local administration which is putting the existence of the bridge and the international stadium at risk. Inspecting the affected areas on Sunday along with local public representatives, he talked in detail to officials concerned while also asking them to take immediate steps for the safety of flood affected areas. The MLA said that the Sports minister Rekha Arya who is also the minister in-charge of Nainital district has not yet inspected the flood affected Gaula bridge and the international stadium. This shows her apathy towards sports and the region which has resulted in disappointment in the public. The national games are proposed to be held in this international stadium, he added. At the international sports stadium, local public representatives informed the MLA that the damage caused by Gaula to the stadium could have been prevented. However, inefficiency of the local administration has now put this stadium at risk, they alleged. Hridayesh also expressed his dissatisfaction to the officials concerned regarding the damage caused to Gaula bridge. He said that a high level probe should be conducted into the works undertaken in recent years for the safety of the bridge.
