Residents especially in the rural areas in Joshimath block of Chamoli district are suffering major inconvenience due to the bad condition of the roads. The condition of the Selang-Salud motor road, Marwadi- Thaig motor road and the Helang-Urgam motor road has remained poor since the monsoon season.
People face major inconvenience due to ditches and potholes dotting these roads. The potholes on the Selang-Salud motor road have become a factor causing mishaps while the condition of the Marwadi-Thaig motor road is also poor. Locals point out that some accidents have also taken place due to the poor condition of the Urgam motor road.
Local resident Lakshman Singh Negi states that memoranda have been submitted on many occasions seeking the repair of the road but the authorities have not taken any action so far. At a time when the Central and State governments are stressing on the need for development of border regions and improvement of the infrastructure in such places, the continued apathy of the departments concerned towards the condition of the motor roads in this region of Chamoli district contradicts the claims being made by the government.
