PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Garima Dasauni has said that the slow pace of the rescue operation in Dharali disaster of Uttarkashi exposes the tall claims of the State government.

She said that despite the much hyped double engine government, the people residing in the mountainous parts of the Uttarakhand live under constant fear of natural disasters.

Dasauni said that the State government in its official website of Disaster Relief Management (DRM) claims to have state of the art equipment for disaster forecast and relief technology.

“As per the website, the State has National Landslide Risk Mitigation System, National Landslide Forecasting System, National Landslide Early Warning System, Glacier Lake Outburst Flood Risk Management System, Integrated Alert Common Protocol, Decision Support System, Early Warning System, USDMA with State Alert SEOC System and  SDRF Building. Despite the claim of availability of modern technology and equipment, the government machinery collapsed completely during the Uttarkashi disaster,’’ she said.

Dasauni said that the affected families are waiting for relief and those buried in debris were not evacuated in time. She said that the Member of Parliament, minister in- charge, local MLAs and BJP leaders are missing from the ground.

She said that it is unfortunate that the Agriculture minister Ganesh Joshi and BJP MLAs Savita Kapoor and Umesh Sharma Kau are organising Rakshabandhan programmes at a time when disaster has struck the State.
