The students of DAV PG College conducted a signature campaign inside the institution’s premises on their long-standing demands on Wednesday. The president of the students’ union of the college Siddharth Aggarwal said that they had collected students’ signatures on a letter during the campaign which contained their important demands to be served to the college management.

He further said that the campaign was focused principally on a large number of posts of teaching and non-teaching staff remaining vacant. “This is affecting directly and indirectly our studies and this warrants to be addressed at the earliest,” he said.

Sharing details, the union president said that out of 185 teaching posts, 132 have been filled. “Besides, there are 56 and 94 sanctioned posts for third and fourth-class staffers, but only 27 and 47 have been filled respectively. The students demand through today’s campaign the management to step in immediately and fill these vacant posts to facilitate unhindered and quality studies,” he added.

“We also demand the installation of a 100-ft national flag which was promised by the cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi in 2023 but till date it has not been installed. The condition of the classrooms to should be improved besides revamping the infrastructure,” he added.

Aggarwal warned that the students of the college will bee forced to start an agitation if the management fails to act on the demands of students.

Queried over the students’ demands, the dean of student welfare of the college Gopal Chettri acknowledged that staff crunch has been negatively impacting the quality of studies. “We are aware of this problem and the college management has already informed the authorities concerned. We hope that these vacancies will be filled soon,” he said.
