DAV College students stage secretariat march to press demands

Thursday, 19 September 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

DAV PG College students took out a rally and marched towards the secretariat on Wednesday, protesting against the administration sitting on their long-standing demands. They later submitted a memorandum to the secretary, higher education, urging his prompt intervention in the matter.

Sharing this, the president of the student union Siddharth Aggarwal said that the students had been staging a stir at the college premises for the past nine days.

“However, till now, the college management has not taken any action. Nor have they provided an assurance that their demands would be seriously looked into.  This has left us with no option but to organise the rally.   We served a memorandum to the secretary, higher education, asking for his initiative to break the deadlock,” he added.

Queried about the principal demands they have been staging agitation over, he said that the authority must fill the vacant posts of teachers and other staff at the earliest.  “Currently, out of 185 teaching positions, only 132 have been filled while out of 56 and 94 positions for third and fourth-class staff, only 27 and 47 have been filled respectively.   This aside, the students demand the installation of a 100-ft high national flag promised by the cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi in 2023.  We are also demanding a revamp of the existing infrastructure of the college,” he added.

He warned that in case the education and the college administrations continue dithering regarding their demands, they might   resort to indefinite stir at the college and finally an indefinite hunger strike.

To recall, the DAV PG College students recently conducted a signature campaign to press their demands.
