The impasse between the opposition Congress and the government on the business of the house is continuing. The leader of opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya and Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh were conspicuous by their absence from the meeting of the business advisory committee (BAC) of the house on Sunday. When the Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agarwal contacted Arya and Singh they curtly told him that they had tendered their resignation from the BAC on February 5 itself.
In absence of the Congress members the BAC decided on the business of the house till February 1. The Finance minister Prem Chand Agarwal will table the budget for the year 2024-25 in the house on February 27. Agarwal said that the Congress members should attend the meeting of the BAC.
When contacted by The Pioneer, Singh said that he and the LoP had resigned from the BAC on February 5 when the government tried to bulldoze its way for the session held to pass the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He said that since the session convened from February 5 was an extended winter session the Congress wanted that the house should also discharge normal functions such as holding of question hour but the government did not hear the plea. Singh said that the Parliamentary Affairs minister had said that the government has majority and it will hold the session as per its wish. He said that in protest against such an attitude of the government the Congress members tendered their resignation from the BAC. Singh further added that the government made no attempt to break the deadlock over the issue.
