With the char dham yatra having started on April 22, in the last 10 days, 14 pilgrims have died. While nine of them died on the Gangotri and Yamunotri routes five have died on the Kedarnath route. According to the State health department, no death has been reported so far from the Badrinath route in five days since the shrine reopened.
The health department has been providing health services to the char dham pilgrims despite the weather having become inclement. The State health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said in a press statement that around 46,000 pilgrims above the age of 55 have availed so far the health facilities arranged on the yatra route and 10,385 pilgrims have availed out-patient duty facilities. He further said that 35 pilgrims have been referred to higher centre and two have been airlifted.
It is learnt from the State health department officers, 48 permanent health check posts and 23 temporary health check posts with 182 MBBS doctors and 29 specialist doctors have been set up along the Char Dham Yatra routes.
It is further learnt that over one lakh pilgrims have visited Gangotri, Yamunotri and Kedarnath while the number of those who have visited Badrinath stands at 37,000.
