The national highway to Badrinath is getting blocked frequently at Chinka by debris, causing major inconvenience to both pilgrims and local travelers. Boulders and debris from the slide zone here blocked the highway at Chinka for about five hours on Friday.
The authorities went to work to clear the blockage. Long queues of vehicles formed on both sides of the blockage. The authorities were able to clear the debris and reopen the highway for traffic at about 11:40 AM. Locals point out that boulders and debris are consistently falling on the highway at the slide zone here.
