Debt ridden couple jumps to death in Haridwar

A bullion trader and his wife reportedly died by suicide by jumping into the Gangnahar canal in Haridwar on Monday. The couple, Saurabh Babbar and his wife Mona Babbar, belonged to Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh and had been dealing with significant debt and could not manage their loan payments, the officials said. They informed that the couple arrived at the canal on Saurabh’s new motorcycle. Before their deaths, the couple reportedly took a selfie at Hathi Pul and sent it to an employee at their jewellery store in Saharanpur with a request to share it with their relatives. The police started looking for the couple after Saurabh’s family came to know about the suicide and communicate the police via phone. The police recovered Saurabh’s body late on Monday but Mona’s body was not found till Tuesday evening. The officials said that the couple had left a note stating that they were ending their lives due to financial difficulties. Police found a mobile phone and a purse in Saurabh’s body. The couple has two children presently living with their maternal grandparents.
