The secretary of Uttarakhand Congress Mahesh Joshi has demanded that the union government should declare Uttarakhand as a disaster affected state. Accusing the state government of hiding the actual number of deaths, Joshi said that more than 100 lives have been lost. He said that the disaster has proved that the disaster management of the state government is a complete failure as there was no preparation to deal with it even as there was a warning. Joshi said that the people of the state hoped that the union home minister Amit Shah would announce a relief package for the state but he did nothing other than pat the back of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
