Deepawali celebrated in Lord Vishnu’s earthly abode on Friday

The festival of Deepawali was celebrated with fervour at the Bhu Vaikunth Dham- Badrinath in Chamoli district on Friday. Since the Amavasya period astrologically lasted from Thursday to Friday evening, some celebrated Deepawali on Thursday. However, the temple committee and its priests consulted the Panchang and according to their calculations the festival was celebrated on Friday. As per the traditions, Lakshmi Pujan was held in the evening at Badrinath. The divine treasurer Kuber is also believed to be present at the place at this time. He was also worshipped ritually in the evening.

Badrinath Dharmadhikari Radhakrishna Thapliyal said that Deepawali was celebrated on Friday evening during the Amavasya period. The ritual worship of Goddess Mahalakshmi was also performed during this auspicious period. He said that according to the religious scriptures and traditional calendar, the festival of Deepawali was celebrated on Friday.
