Considering the major issue of proper waste management across Dehradun district, the district magistrate Sonika has ordered the officials to prepare a district waste management plan after gathering the information of the work being done in urban local bodies (ULBs) to manage the waste generated in their respective areas. The DM stated this in a meeting of the District Level Environment Committee held on Thursday in which several topics associated with waste management like biodegradable waste, non-biodegradable waste, microbial waste management and other techniques that can be used to tackle the waste management issue. The DM also discussed making microbial bio-compost (MBC) and other possible products from the waste generated under ULBs. The experts in the committee also gave a presentation to the DM about the proposed waste management action plan prepared for the district. She directed the officials and experts involved in the plan to first gather information about the ongoing work in waste management under ULBs before making a final district level waste management plan in order to ensure every crucial point is being considered to tackle waste management issues. The divisional forest officer (DFO) Nitishmani Tripathi also informed the DM that after uploading the action plan of waste management on the website of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the committee would seek public suggestions on waste management for a week. The eligible suggestions would be incorporated in the final action plan, added the DFO.
